Daybound
Privacy Policy
Daybound is a shared journal app: you and the people you love decorate one page a day with text, drawings, stickers, and photos. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it goes, and the choices you have. We keep it plain because the app is simple: there are no ads, no analytics, and no tracking SDKs in Daybound.
Daybound is operated by theFour, an independent app studio (“we”, “us”). Questions? Email [email protected].
What we collect
Account information. When you sign in, we receive your email address and an authentication identifier through Supabase Auth. If you use Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, we receive the identifier (and, if you share it, the email address) that Apple or Google provides. We use this only to create and secure your account and to connect you with people you share books with.
Journal content. The pages you create — text, drawings, stickers, and page layout — are stored on your device, and are synced to our cloud database when you are signed in so that shared books work and your books are backed up.
Photos. Photos you add to pages are stored on your device. They are uploaded to cloud storage only if you are on the Premium plan (photo backup is a Premium feature) or when they belong to a book you share with someone, so the people you share with can see them. Otherwise, photos never leave your device.
Subscription state. We keep a record of whether your account has an active Premium subscription so we can unlock Premium features. Payment itself is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details.
What we do not collect. No advertising identifiers, no analytics events, no location data, no contact lists, no tracking of any kind.
Where your data lives
- On your device. Everything you create is stored locally first.
- In the cloud. When you are signed in, journal content (and photos backed up as described above) are stored in a Supabase-hosted database and storage bucket. Access is restricted per account: only you, and the people a book is explicitly shared with, can read that book's content.
Cloud backup is on by default — and how to turn it off
After you sign in, cloud backup is on by default. You can turn it off at any time using the switch in the Cloud Backup sheet inside the app. With backup off, new content stays on your device only. Note that books shared with another person require the cloud to sync between you.
About the PIN
The optional PIN lock is a device-side access gate: it stops someone who picks up your phone from opening the app. It is not encryption — it does not change how your data is stored on the device or in the cloud.
Retention and deletion
- Delete your account. Settings → Delete account permanently removes your account, profile, and books from our servers and from your device. Books you shared with someone else remain with them.
- Erase local data. If you are not signed in, Settings → Erase all data permanently deletes every book and photo stored on the device.
- We retain server data only while your account exists. Backup copies made for reliability are purged on our provider's standard schedule.
Children
Daybound is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
Your rights
You can access your content in the app at any time, and delete it using the in-app tools described above. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California), you may also have rights to request a copy of your personal data, correct it, delete it, or object to certain processing — and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app before the change takes effect.
